I have a neighbor who likes to scream (with signs) their opinion. When someone states they are for ‘unity over division’ YET puts up these kinds of signs, is actually saying the opposite. This display of opinion is saying ‘believe what I believe, or you are going to be cancelled’.
This person has every right to voice their opinion. I have no issue with that. What I am trying to explain here is, our opinions may have consequences that we don’t intend. I feel the INTENTION of this person isn’t to bring unity. It is more of authoritarianism view of the world. It is a form of bullying people into thinking their opinion is wrong. My father always told me that ‘you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar’. Meaning, that when you are salty about something, people may rebuke you. It is much easier for people to digest a KIND way of getting your opinion across to them.
Secondly, the United States of America is NOT a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic which is a representative form of democracy. Why isn’t this taught properly? In this system, citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf, and the government operates under the rule of law as outlined in the Constitution. Key features of this type of government include regular elections, the protection of individual rights, and a system of checks and balances among the branches of government.
Did you know that ancient Greece, particularly Athens, is often regarded as the birthplace of democracy? The Athenian democracy was a direct form of democracy, where citizens participated directly in decision-making rather than through elected representatives.
Therefore, if the Democrats would like to do away with the electoral college, then we MUST do away with Congress. We wouldn’t need a Congress if we go full on democracy. We would all vote on everything. No House and no Senate. No President. We would just need a staff (like we do that runs our cities and counties) to carry out the tasks. We have the technology, right? We could do it all online. I mean, why not?
Well, first of all I don’t trust machines because we can’t see the reality of the votes through the machines. UNLESS we do it on blockchain. That would be the ONLY way to make sure no one is tampering with results. But I digress.
A "true democracy" often refers to a system where all eligible citizens have a direct and equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. In a true democracy, key features typically include:
Direct Participation: Citizens can vote on laws and policies directly rather than through elected representatives.
Equal Representation: Each citizen's vote carries the same weight, ensuring that all voices are heard equally.
Majority Rule with Minority Rights: Decisions are made based on majority support, but the rights of minority groups are protected.
Transparency and Accountability: Government actions and decisions are open to public scrutiny, and officials are accountable to the people.
Freedom of Expression: Citizens have the right to express their opinions and engage in open debate.
In practice, pure direct democracy is challenging to implement on a large scale, which is why many modern democracies are representative in nature, combining elements of both direct and indirect participation.
The claim of ‘Saving Democracy’ is ridiculous and a very pedantic. It insinuates that the alternative is that what? Tyranny? Isn’t that what’s already been happening? No one can see our votes as it is. The machines were supposed to take mistakes and corruption away, yet it has only made it easier.
Question - why did it take Alaska 3 days in the 2020 election to finalize votes? I remember the days when people HAND COUNTED votes and the results came by midnight and when we woke up in the morning we knew who won.
The longest hand count took place in 2000 Bush vs. Gore, which was the perfect setup to instill machines.
The second longest? The 1876 presidential election between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel J. Tilden. This election was highly contentious and marked by widespread disputes over the results in several states, particularly Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina. Hmm, Florida again. Interesting.
This coming election is going to be interesting for sure. Loose (VERY loose) election laws in blue run states will make it very interesting.
18 U.S. Code § 611 - Voting by aliens
“It shall be unlawful for any alien to vote in any election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, Delegate from the District of Columbia, or Resident Commissioner”
Just dropping it there. Remember, remember, the 5th of November. Get out and vote! ON ELECTION DAY. Not one day sooner. Don’t give them the opportunity to know your moves ahead of time #artofwar.
I am so excited to be an election judge this year! For the record, I am a moderate. Not that it’s any of your business. But, I do not really identify with either D or R. I think political parties are our biggest problem in this country. Why do we need parties? Why can’t we just vote for people and not have them segregated by a party?
Parties are what divide us.
