A bill for an act to make Rank Choice Voting a law - NO!
Here is the link to the bill. This is the concerning part:
A bill for an act relating to elections; providing for ranked choice voting in elections for federal and state offices; establishing a Statewide Ranked Choice Voting Implementation Task Force; authorizing jurisdictions to adopt rankedchoice voting for local offices; establishing procedures for adoption, implementation, and use of ranked choice voting for local jurisdictions; allowing local jurisdictions to use electronic voting systems with a reallocation feature; authorizing rulemaking; requiring report;
appropriating money;
Wait what? A REALLOCATION FEATURE? What does that mean? The ability to REALLOCATE - not adjudicate? Words matter. And rank choice for FEDERAL? Absolutely not.
Here’s what one article wrote on RCV:
“but it is really a scheme to disconnect elections from issues and allow candidates with marginal support from voters to win elections”
Is this really what you (legislators) want? Are you really that greedy for power and control?
RCV is not actually voting - it’s ranking your choices. And if the most people have John Doe as their #2 and he gets more votes than any #1 ranked candidate, #2 could win. This isn’t voting. The American Experiment spells it out wonderfully so the average Joe or Jane (like me) can comprehend it.
The other issue I have is that they want to KEEP voting machines! Why? The machines have been proven to be hackable. Now we are allowing election judges to reallocate votes? What is the purpose of voting, if the votes can just be changed? This is NOT a good idea. It sounds like a rigged system for politicians to finagle the results to be as they like.
The City of Bloomington has already had its citizens in an uproar about it. A group of citizens called Residents for a Better Bloomington (RFABB) have retained Upper Midwest Law Center to represent them to fight this system. This is some serious business.
Our vote is our voice. If they want to take that away, we are no longer the US of A. We will not be the land of the brave and free. We will be the land of the broken and beaten down. Giving you a choice doesn’t mean you are free or you live in a democracy. Our republic will be dead.
Minnesota = Commisota. No vote for you!
Legislators be advised - you are not creating a democracy with this bill. You will be creating a very complicated system that no one will be able to decipher. Not cool and knock it off! The people say NO.
Well said Tracey! Will be heading over to senate building today to speak my testimony in opposition soon, starting at 3pm.
